What does a myotherapist do?
A myotherapist is a healthcare professional specialising in treating soft tissue pain, dysfunction and injury. They use a range of manual techniques such as massage, trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, stretching and exercise prescription to alleviate pain and improve the function of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and joints.
Myotherapists work with clients who have acute or chronic musculoskeletal conditions, sports injuries, postural imbalances, and pain or discomfort related to daily activities. They conduct a thorough assessment of the client’s medical history, physical condition and lifestyle factors to develop a personalised treatment plan that targets the underlying cause of the problem.
The goal of myotherapy is to relieve pain, improve mobility, restore function and prevent further injury. Myotherapists may also provide advice on posture, ergonomics, exercise and lifestyle modifications to help clients maintain optimal musculoskeletal health.
